The story starts out 5 years ago on a 10-day motorcycle tour in Chaing Mai.
The bikes were larger displacement bikes, which are not necessary for riding in Thailand. The tour was a full on 10-day race, and left loving Thailand, but hoping to quickly forget the tour company and staff. But, that is where I met Steve C, and with our similar interest on photography, kept in touch with Steve, planning to return to Thailand.
2024 – After multiple motorcycle tours to other locations, decided it was time to head back to Thailand. At Steve’s recommendation, booked with Siam Enduro, and was rewarded with the most memorable tour ever.
The bikes, riding, accommodations, and meals were good, but the entire tour had a different “feel” than any other tour I’ve taken. Siam Enduro filled the void that other companies tried to fill but fell short – becoming part of the family. Walter’s approach to the riders is different than other tour companies in that it’s genuine, not just another day with tourists. When traveling by motorcycle, I’m looking to experience “The Country, the Culture, and the People”. Racing around the country not seeing anything, stopping at the top 10 tourist attractions, restaurants, or hotels is not high on the list.
The 1 st night is spent at Siam Enduro’s location which includes lodging. Morning coffee and talking with Walter while he prepared a “Home Cooked” breakfast… felt like home.
And, with the location being out of Chaing Mai, we do not have to ride thru Chaing Mai traffic which can be intimidating to “Westerners”.
The rest of the days were spent riding a combination of dirt, gravel, and pavement. Challenging, but enjoyable. The days included riding, stopping at the local coffee shops, a couple of “Cultural” stops, with the day finally ending with a “Boot Beer”. The post ride beer was easy conversation, not the typical forced scripted conversation feel of other tours.
The 2 nights in Pai were the most memorable. Sitting at a outdoor café, eating street vendor food, and photographing the locals / tourists, telling “Tales of our Adventures”, just simple unforgettable fun.
Departed Thailand with great memories, but planning on returning to Thailand for the “Unfinished Business” of more riding and revisiting friends.
Thanks to Walter, Toby, and Steve for a great time.
Additional thanks to the Steve from Canada who we had dinner with, a 2 nd rider who was renting from Siam Enduro we met on his way to Laos, and the welder guy who tagged along for a day while on his way to Australia. While they were not on the tour, but their short presence added to the uniqueness of the tour.
